TIMEPLANE ART - A Moment In Time
My Biography

Ian Temple
Ian Temple

As in Horses for Courses! Here I am, a life long railway enthusiast. Travelling by train to Oxford.
I was born and lived most of my life in Hounslow, Middlesex. But then moved to Hampshire in 2009. I must say I love the air down here and the local countryside is beautiful.. Indeed the New Forest is close nearby. And being close to the Coast, the weather is quite mild all year round. And certainly lacks the humidity of West London.. Do I not miss that!!!!

I am ideally situated living in Eastleigh, Hampshire.. Between Winchester, Southampton, Bishops Waltham and Romsey.. Of course Eastleigh is a 'Railway Town' and home to the 'Works' of the former, London & South Western Railway, Southern Railway, and latterly, British Railways Southern Region

35013 Blue Funnel - 'Festival' at Waterloo

Indeed in my painting of 'Festival' Which shows locomotive No: 35013 'Blue Funnel' departing Waterloo.. The entire class of thirty 'Merchant Navy' Pacifics were built at Eastleigh Works. This Locomotive was my favourite of the class

And a preserved example No: 35005 'Canadian Pacific', owned by the Mid Hants Railway. is currently in store at the works, pending overhaul. A new appeal for donations to restore the engine is open now

I am also a Working Volunteer on the 'Watercress Line' thats the Mid-Hants Railway, between Alresford and Alton. And when i'm on duty, you can find me on the platform at 'Medstead & Four Marks Station'. The 'Jewel in The Crown' of a Classic rural Country railway station. Come and say 'Hello'

Bristol Britannia - At Heathrow Airport

From 1979 until 2010. I spent just over 30 years working, in firstly the Courier services, and after a few years the Shipping and Forwarding Industries. Until I took the decision to opt out of the rat race! Realising that I needed the time, to be able to pursue 'My Work' to the full.. It has been the most 'De-stressing' decision i've ever made! And makes me feel a lot better for it!

So you can see, that in one guise or another. 'Transport' has had a major influence on my life.. From 'Trainspotting' as a young boy with Dad, over on Hounslow Heath by Feltham Marshalling Yard. Or many of the London mainline stations, especially Paddington. With all of those Steam Engines everywhere. How Exquisitely "NonPC" it All was! Seeing all of the change over from 'Prop Jobs', to the Jets in Aviation. Including the Last of the Great British propeller aeroplanes. The 'Bristol Britannia', nicknamed 'The Whispering Giant'. To watching 'Concorde' from Test Flights in the early 1970's, right through to The End in 2003!.

Watching the last years of the Great Ocean Liners. 'Queen Elizabeth', the 'United States', 'SS France', 'Canberra', 'Union Castle' ships and my favourite of all 'RMS Queen Mary'..

Even the changes on the roads have been huge. From quaint little pre second world war cars. Still in use in the late 1950's and early 1960's! And remember back then, that 'Motorways' were only a 'Project'!!

On the Buses when they used to have a 'Clippie' on board.. The conductor pulling the cord! 'Ding Ding', 'Hold Tight Please'!! Before the changeover to One Man operation.

These are all wonderful memories that inspire me, and can also become your "Moment In Time"
